Multi-Layered Paper or Paperboard

Multi layered paper or paper board machines manufactures board with multi layers so that the thickness or basis weight of the board is up to 700 gsm. This are normally used for book covers, asphalt paper or roofing paper base and a variety of thick boards for industrial and commercial use. This machines run so slow. The design or construction of multi-layered board machines is a combination of Fourdrinier and Former cylinders or just plainly made of 6- units of conventinal design Former Cylinders. Odf course the usual Press section and Drying part is integrated in the whole system.

Board Machines

This machines are used to manufacture paperboard -normally on the higher basis weight categories.
The basis weight ranges from 125 gsm up to 300 gsm and this types of paperboards are linerboard, corrugating medium, bristol boards, roofing paper, chip board and other packaging materials.
Board machines run at normally low speeds say up to 100 meters per minute due to its thickness.
Board machines consist of two parts, they are-Wet Part and Drying Part. The wet part is the forming section and the Drying part is the final stage. The froming section consists of the Forming Cylinders where it receives pulp stock from the Approach flow system. This pulp stock just rotates around the cylider for initial formation and drainage then it is fed towards the succeeding fromer cylinder and so on. Board Machines may operate with up to 5 Former cylinders before the paper web is fed to the Press Section.
Press operation, Drying, Calendering and Reeling operation then follows-almost typical as the ones in the Paper Machines.

SPECIALTY-TISSUE PAPER MACHINES.

This machines are used to manufacture Tissue paper-customized tissue grades especially toilet and facial.
The Wet part forming section and Dry part sections of the Tissue machine is completely different from a typical Paper Machine which consists of a Fourdrinier, Press section and Dry part section.
The forming section of a Tissue machine consists of a high speed jet stock headbox-Step diffusor type which feeds 2 to 3 layers of jets of stock to the forming section which is a Twin wire conventional former.
Dewatering is being done in the forming section and a dewatered paper web is fed to the press section for further dewatering which is an integrated part/design of the drying cylinder and not an independent press section in contrast to a typical paper machine. The drying section consists only of one big drying cylider that is called a Yankee drying cylinder, equipped with all controls for heating, profiling, high velocity and high efficiency air hood. After drying, paper web is then transferred and reeled to the Pope Reel and released as paper jumbo reels at 1500mm in diameter.

Paper and Board making machineries

PAPER MACHINES.

This machines are used to manufacture paper-normally on the lower basis weight categories.
The basis weight ranges from 22 gsm up to 100 gsm and this types of paper are cigarette paper, security paper ( paper money, cheques, etc.), printing & writing grades, newsprint and base paper for specialty grades such as : Glassine, greaseproof, carbonless copy paper, etc.
Modern Paper machines run at various speed say up to 1500 meters per minute depending on the grade of paper being produced. The smaller the basis weight or the thinner it is, the faster it goes.
Paper machines consist of two parts, they are-Wet Part and Drying Part. The wet part is the forming
section and the Drying part is the final stage. The forming section consists of the Fourdrinier where the first equipment which is the headbox receives pulp stock from the Approach flow system. This pulp stock is distributed to the the fourdrinier wire for initial formation and drainage where foils and vacuum is applied.
More drainage is applied when the paper web goes out of the fourdrinier couch roll and is fed to the Press section where at least 46% of the moisture in the paper web remains. The paper web then goes into the drying part where it is carried forward in between canvass felts and drying cylinders which are heated with steam. The dries paper web at around 7% moisture is being flattened for even caliper thickness thru the alender stack and then finally rolled into jumbo roll of 1.5 meters diameter at the Pope Reel.

Next posting will be on Specialty &Tissue paper machines.
